Everyday banking with B got a few boosts this year, with the arrival of Android Pay, Biller Payments (so you can now find and pay a company by name instead of bank details). We also introduced weekly balance alerts by text, not forgetting a thumbs up for fingerprint ID. And all that was just the beginning…
One feature we’re really proud of from 2017 is in-app cheque deposits, which launched in November. It means you can now bank a cheque just by submitting photos of it, which saves any hassle of going into a branch. B’s one of the first platforms to offer this service, so it’s a pretty cool thing.
We stepped into Studio B
Back in April, we opened the doors to Studio B - an interactive space in Kensington, London where we’re developing ideas about how people use, save and manage their money. Studio B is also a great hub for things like career events and ideas generation.
In fact, some great ideas have already come out of the Studio B Lab, like ‘read receipts’ for when you’ve paid into someone else’s account. Did you know you can even vote for which projects we focus on? Just check out the ‘vote’ section on the Innovation Lab page.
In June, we introduced B Credit card – offering our customers a credit card that can be used along with the B app to help them take more control of their money. With no foreign transaction fees (excluding cash withdrawals) and one great rate - representative 9.9% APR variable - B Credit card has been one of our biggest and most exciting launches of the year. Credit subject to status, 18+, UK residents only.
Everything we change about B comes from our aim to help give people more control of their money. And how do we do that? We ask them! In August, we set up a customer panel called ‘B part of it’ so that any customer can take part in research studies to improve what B does.
Recently, 72% of the panel (currently totals 650 people) told us they’re more in control of their cash since opening their B Current & Instant Savings account, which is great feedback (though we’re keen to get that figure up to 100%!). Would you like to join the panel? Head here to register. It only takes a few minutes, and you could help make B even better.
Phew! So, that was 2017. Now what about 2018?
Talking to tech
Voice control technology will make its way into loads more homes in 2018, and we’ve already been exploring ways you could speak to your B current account using voice control devices. Watch this space!
Open-minded Open Banking
On January 13 2018, Open Banking arrives. It means you’ll have the opportunity (if you want it) to share your financial data with third party companies and apps, which is a big deal in the banking sector. We’ll be introducing ways to give our customers easier access to that data, and help you navigate this pretty important change.
B on your desktop
You may have noticed a new ‘login’ button at the top right of the B homepage. Right now, at the end of 2017, it’s for a Beta version of B for desktop, so you can login and manage your money on your computer.
We’ll let customers know when the full version is up and running (early in 2018), but if you’d like to try out the Beta version, just hit ‘login’ at the top of this page (it only takes a few minutes to register).
‘Appy New Year!
All of these are just the things we know are right around the corner. We’ll be adding more features, hosting more events and generally carrying on our mission to develop the future of banking through B.
Thanks for taking the time to read our blogs and follow us on Social this year. Stay tuned for more big news in 2018!
All the best, from The Team at B.
